The rupee has been the topic of much debate this year, as it has been slipping to new lifetime lows every second day. However, what also needs to be seen in context is that this depreciation has happened amidst global strength in the US dollar and risk aversion in global emerging markets. This has resulted in large foreign outflows across most emerging economies coupled with a steep depreciation in emerging market currencies.
